The matcha scene in New York is something special. I had a chance to finally visit NYC for the first time with Jaz this past October. Yep, I’m not based in New York. For those of you that may not know, I’m currently based in San Francisco and curate my page remotely.

Jaz and I completely fell in love with the energy of the city. Aside from almost get bulldozed by New Yorkers every time we went for a walk, we found ourselves enamored by the beautiful street art, towering buildings, and of course the matcha finds we finally got to try.

Here are my Top 5 matcha finds that I still dream about till this day. If you’re NYC-based and add these to your #matchabucketlist, would you mind sending me a photo so I can live vicariously through you? Thanks, you da you da best!

FIND IT AT: ZENCHAI | 94 Rivington St. New York, NY 10002

Not only does Zenchai have deliciously creative matcha drinks, they also radiate #goodvibes that you can instantly feel once you walk through their front doors. We dig good vibes.

Their Matcha Coconut Combo is beautifully layered with coconut water at the bottom, followed by coconut milk, which is then topped off with their premium matcha. SO GOOD. I’ve been on this coconut kick lately and will almost always pick a matcha drink that contains coconut water.

Zenchai is the perfect spot to treat your mind, body, and soul to. They have just about everything you need to #treatyoself; an extensive menu that has something for everyone (yes, even you matcha lovers on a plant-based diet), special events and performances during the week, and those good vibes we keep talking about. Meeting Chris, the owner of Zenchai, was one of the highlight of our trip. If Jaz and I lived in NYC, you would find us working out of Zenchai multiple times of the week.

FIND IT AT: SPOT DESSERT BAR | 13th Saint Marks Pl. New York, NY 10003

That matcha lava tho. Spot Dessert Bar’s Matcha Lava Cake was one of the best things I’ve put in my mouth (cue Jaz saying “that’s what she said!”). Have your phone ready to record the money shot as the matcha chocolate lava slowly flows out of their warm chocolate cake.

The Matcha Lava Cake is paired with a scoop of matcha ice cream and a cookie. Spot Dessert Bar also has other matcha offerings like their Matcha Milk Bun.

TIP: Get there early because they sometimes sell out of their popular items.

FIND IT AT: BIBBLE & SIP | 253 WEST 51 St. New York, NY 10019

Bibble & Sip is REAL generous with that matcha cream. Their light and fluffy cream puffs deserve to be on your #matchabucketlist.

Here’s what you’ll need to prepare for the most perfect Instagrammable shot: a shit ton of napkins, a plastic knife, more napkins, and a normal-sized hand (my hands are tiny and I struggled with trying to hold both halves of this cream puff).

Their cream puffs are so popular, they tend to sell out so be sure to get there early.

TIP: In case Bibble & Sip sells out, you should probably know that Project Cozy also serves Bibble & Sip’s matcha cream puff.

FIND IT AT:MATCHA CAFE WABI | 233 E 4th St. New York, NY 10009

If you suddenly get hit with a matcha craving, go to Matcha Cafe Wabi. I love the more traditional take to the matcha offerings on their menu.

Matcha Cafe Wabi has matcha menu items ranging from a classic Matcha Latte to a Matcha Yuzu Float. During our visit, I tried their seasonal Matcha Pumpkin Latte (pictured left) and Jaz requested a Dirty Matcha (matcha latte with a single shot of espresso). It was my first time trying a matcha pumpkin latte — the pumpkin purée the barista incorporated into my latte was a pleasant and subtle touch.

Aside from delicious matcha-based drinks, Matcha Cafe Wabi also has tempting desserts; like their matcha mochi, cookies, rice crispies, and more!

Doughnut you want one of these in your mouth?! We do!

Cha Cha Matcha was our first matcha stop in NYC. You can expect there to be a long line (and for a great reason, their matcha desserts and drinks are crazy good).

After spending months drooling over photos the Matcha NYC community would tag me in of the Doughssant, I made a point to include it in my first experience at Cha Cha Matcha and I was not disappointed! The matcha ganache inside of the Doughssant was my favorite part of the dessert — it has the most amazing texture. I also tried the Matcha Soft Serve (pictured left) and loved how generous they are with their servings. We can’t wait to come back here in the Spring!
